Boys Town was founded on December 12, 1917. Cities where new Boys Town USA affiliate (or national) sites were established included Orlando and West Palm Beach in Florida; San Antonio, Texas; New Orleans, Louisiana; Las Vegas, Nevada; Brooklyn, New York; Newark, New Jersey; Portsmouth, Rhode Island; Orange County, California; Washington, D. Atlanta, Georgia; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Chicago, Illinois. In its expansion, Boys Town was offering more effective ways to help troubled children and families on a larger scale. In February 1985, Boys Town original facility in Omaha, Nebraska was designated a. District for the significance of its work with children and youth, and was listed on the. National Register of Historic Places. The Obverse of the coin has a head portrait of Father Flanagan, the creator of Boys Town, while the reverse has a hand holding a small tree with the motto'This Work Will Continue'.
