2016 Canada $250 Celebrating Her Majesty's 90th Birthday Pure Gold Coin

  

Issued in 2016 to mark the 90. Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the coin beautifully combines rarity and elegance. The design features elements of the Queen's Vladimir Tiara, comprised of 29 high quality genuine Canadian diamonds and a large cabochon emerald. The coin itself has a weight of nearly two ounces of pure gold, and the total diamond weight is close to one carat.

The Royal Canadian Mint worked with the collaboration of renowned jeweler Steve Thompson Thompson S. Jewelers Ltd in order to incorporate precious stones into the minting process. The tiara's iconic circular design is further expressed in the delicately engraved motif that forms the coin's outer ring - a total 90 circles to honor the Queen on her 90. Birthday; a historic celebration that is also highlighted in the coin's unique double date (1926 - 2016).
