The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame was founded in 1959 to celebrate the sport of basketball and its origins. Mint issued several commemorative coins to mark the 60th anniversary of the Basketball Hall of Fame. The design on the obverse of this curved gold proof shows 3 basketball players as they all reach for the ball at the same time. This design is the work of Justin Kunz. The date is also located on this side.

The design on the reverse is by Donna Weaver. It shows a closeup view of a basketball just before it goes through the net. The face value is on this side on the right portion of the design.
